I'm using an external battery for my RS-UV3 and I'm wondering if it's possible to monitor or query the B_STAT signal from the MCP73213.

Hi Rej.

Yes you can use the LD command to map the B_STAT signal to the Green LED. It's on while the battery is charging and off when the battery is full. I could add it to the AO choices if you need a signal and I could probably add a serial command to query its current state.

Hello Jim,

Thanks for the information. I looked at the RS-UV3 Command Reference sheet; but, I can't see the LD command. I assume it's an
assembler command from the PIC18F micro controller. As you suggested, could you kindly provide me with an example on how to use this LD command pertaining
to the B_STAT status query and the Green LED. I'm working on setting up an external Li-Ion battery to power the RS-UV3 and need to monitor/query
the B_STAT signal during the changing cycle.

And absolutely, It'll be nice to have a serial command to query its current state too.

Maybe the reference on the website isn't up to date. Send me an email, jim (at) hobbyPCB (dot) com and I'll send you the latest. I think it got added a while ago but you might have to update the FW. Actually now that I think about it the LD command has been around for a while too,

LDn or LD?

Sets the funstion of the ST LED (Rev C or higher HW)

0 - off, 1 - on, 2 - sq open, 3 - Batt Chg Stat, 4 - VOX Detec

tLD? Reports the ST LED function

Now that I have the LED programmed to show the Li-Ion battery charger status (with LD3 command), I'd like to know if there is a software command/function to report the states of the LED. This will be nice to know especially after the MCP73213 Elapsed Safety Timer stops the charging process and leave the battery partially charged.

Thank you,

Hi Rej,

I should be able to add a query to find out if the LED is on or off. It may have to wait until after Dayton, we're swamped.
