I have a Rev C board and UV-PA. Using minicom connected to /dev/ttyS0 (the GPIO serial port) on Raspian Jesse, using the JP2 TTL serial port with 3.3V jumper installed. TX/RX/Gnd only connections between Pi and radio. Finally got around to upgrading the firmware to 2.1 this morning, hoping it would fix this problem but still there.

What happens is I'll power up the radio with minicom open and just get a single random character, as if the baud rate is wrong. Usually this is accompanied by the green ST LED lit. The radio won't accept any commands until I power cycle again (and again) until I get the RS-UV3 prompt and the green LED off. Voltage is 8.4V. I've sorted out the CR/LF setting in minicom.

Once I have access I can then set frequency, transmit, etc for a few commands, then it just locks up. Sometimes quite a few commands, sometimes almost none. Only fix once it stops communicating is to power cycle again (and again sometimes). I have tried both 19200 and 9600 bps. Doesn't seem to be related to RF getting in since it happens even when not transmitting. Upgrade on a Windows box went fine and I used the front panel program too.

Kind of at my wits end here. Hoping to use this radio on a drone, but if it is this unreliable on the ground I'm hesitant to even attempt trying it in the air.

We up to FW2.4 and I'm not sure where I rewrote the I2C library but the standard library calls were blocking, if something went wrong on the bus the unit hangs. In one of the FW version I wrote my own I2C routines that timeout and reset if it crashes.

I'll make sure that the latest version is on the website.

Jim.
