My amp's ATC doesn't seem to want to work. I found your advice about disconnecting ribbon cables and checking the 5v pad by J1. Got 5v. Now what.

Hi Bob,

Sorry to hear that things aren't working correctly. Your post refers to the 'ATC' which I'm going to assume is what I call the 'ATU' so if you are referring to something else, please let me know.

The next question I have is: did it work at one point and stop? or is this a new install that you are trying to get working for the first time?

Also can you please tell me the S/N or Rev of you amp and which version of the FW you are running?

Thanks,
Jim WA2EUJ

Jim,

Sorry about "ATC." I guess my mind went back to my public radio days.

My unit's ATU is new, having been built by myself some time ago and just now finally tried out for its first time. I cannot tell you the rev or serial of my Amp but it is rev 3.0. The Amp is like your second generation or so. After I screwed up building it you corrected my blunders and said you updated and set it for a KX3.

Not sure I have the patience, eyesight or coordination for this any more.

Hi Bob,

If the amp says ver 3.0 when you turn it on, it's running older firmware. The new firmware tells you the specific hardware and firmware versions. I'm not sure exactly which version your amp has but I am sure that it doesn't support the ATU.

If your amp works with the KX3 then you don't need any HW mods just a PC and a USB cable, you don't even need to open the amp. Instructions anf FW are here:

Jim,

For the past few days I've attempted to upgrade the HR50 firmware with no success. I repeatedly get PC error messages. For PC & Ham work I use a Toshiba Netbook so I assumed it didn't have enough 'guts' to get the job done. However a buddy -- IT guy for the local technical college -- got the same results. Now what?
