I love this little giant of an amp! It makes my Elecraft k1 stand out in theses bleak rf times! Fifty watts on all bands!!
Lately over the past several months the display screen has become dim. The adjustment pot does vary the characters, but back lighting is very dim. I expect that the problem is internal to the lcd chip. What is the identity name for the chip? Please help!

Hi Mike,

You can get a replacement LCD from http://www.buydisplay.com. The specific link to the white on blue display is:

They are a good value at $1.85 each. They take a while to arrive and you'll need new header pins.

To replace the display you'll need to cut the pins on the header then remove tham one-by-one, clean up the control board with solderwick and flux remover, then install a new header and LCD.

If you run your amp with Elecraft equipment you might consider a black-on-amber display. It costs a little more but it look noce with the Elecraft displays.

Contact me by email jim (at) hobbyPCB (dot) com if you'd like to make arrangements for me to replace it for you.

Thanks for the link. I just replaced my display this afternoon. It took a couple of weeks to come from China. I ordered mine with the header pins which saved me a lot of time. The hardest part is de-soldering the old header pins and removing the old display. Be careful of your soldering iron. I accidentally melted part of the connector socket which is located near the header pins. Luckily, I was able to save it. Once again, I have a nice bright display.
